"Kamerna Rezonanca" Performs at the Matica Srpska Evenings, Showcasing Iconic Vocalises and Modern Composers

The ensemble "Kamerna Rezonanca," featuring renowned performers Vesna Aćimović (soprano), Bogdan Jovanović (cello), Julija Bal, and Maja Grujić (piano), recently performed at the prestigious Matica Srpska Evenings. Their program, part of the ongoing "Beauty of the Vocalise" project, included celebrated vocalises by composers like Ravel, Previn, and Messiaen, alongside modern works by emerging Serbian and international composers.

The project, focused on nurturing the genre of the vocalise (wordless vocal compositions), has quickly gained attention, with composers dedicating new works to the ensemble. In 2023, "Kamerna Rezonanca" won the prestigious IBLA Foundation award in Italy and was invited to perform at Carnegie Hall, with a special award given to Julija Bal’s composition Chromatic Tango.

The program aimed to treat the human voice as an equal instrument in the chamber ensemble, transcending boundaries between vocal-instrumental and purely instrumental performances. The concert included vocalises by contemporary Serbian composers, such as Livija Jovčić (Imprints of the Past and Memento) as well as Chromatic Tango by Julija Bal and a vocalise by the composer Svetozar S. Kovačević.

The ensemble also performed well-known vocalises by composers such as Sergei Rachmaninoff, Maurice Ravel and Georges Bizet, in unique arrangements by Julija Bal.
